Michael R. Scimeca

PhD Candidate—Chemical Engineering

Michael R. Scimeca is a PhD candidate in chemical engineering at the New York University Tandon School of Engineering. He received his B.S. in Bioengineering from Virginia Tech in 2015. After graduation, he was a process engineer at CRB Consulting Engineers assisting in the design of biotechnology and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities. While at CRB, Michael realized how much energy goes into a single manufacturing plant and that renewable energy sources are an incredibly important field of study. So, after a little over a year at CRB, he decided to study renewable energy at NYU with Dr. Ayash Sahu in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. The focus of his work is developing technologies within the clean energy sector. Michael is working on developing flexible thermoelectric devices from colloidal quantum dots.
