Held on October 26th and 27th in the iconic MakerSpace at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, the NYU I-Corps Summer 2018 Program hosted its first round of info-sessions on opportunities next summer for students. Hosted by the Convergence for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) Institute, and sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the NYU I-Corps Summer 2018 Program seeks to promote women’s participation in innovation, improve the diversity in STEM entrepreneurship, and overall present ambitious and innovative students from all backgrounds with an unparalleled platform to learn the skills to be better engineers and scientists.
Through their collaboration and partnership, the CIE and the NSF I-Corps Program can provide an incredible platform for change-makers in STEM diversity, and, will continue to empower a community of women entrepreneurs. At both info-sessions, guest speakers and seasoned industry professionals from the NYU I-Corps Summer 2017 Program shared their experiences last summer with prospective students. Their personal views on their professional participation captured the excitement and the pressure to work passionately with a team in an environment that offers incomparable resources for creating prototypes and that closely mimics the exposure to life at a real start-up. With the intellectual, practical, and funding resources made available to all those participating next summer, all students participating will be given the opportunity to transform their STEM ideas into commercial innovations with positive impact.

Overall, the NSF I-Corps Summer Program invites any researchers interested in exploring the market potential of their work and practicing entrepreneurial skills. Geared primarily towards graduates, doctoral candidates, post-docs, and faculty, the Program’s courses consist of both in-person and remote meetings, and, are offered at no cost. Participants can work in teams with team-leaders belonging to the NYU community. By the end of the program, teams will have conducted surveys and customer interviews, learned about the business model canvas, and will have incorporated effective decision-making skills as budding entrepreneurs. Graduates of the courses also will have the opportunity to be recommended for the NSF I-Corps National Teams Program, which offers grant awards up to $50,000.
